Check your eligibility in under 2 minutes
Germany's Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte, §16d BGB) lets qualified professionals
come to Germany for up to one year to find a job. There are two pathways: direct
qualification and a points-based system (minimum 6 points).
This quiz checks both pathways based on your answers.
What is your highest qualification?
Select the option that best describes your educational background.
Is your qualification recognised in Germany?
Full recognition means your degree/vocational qualification has been assessed and found equivalent to a German one. Partial recognition means equivalence has been partially confirmed.
How many years of relevant work experience do you have?
Count work experience that is related to your qualification. For the points system, recent experience (within the last 5-7 years) counts more.
How old are you?
Your age affects the points calculation. Younger applicants receive more points.
What is your German language level?
Select your CEFR level. A minimum of A1 German OR B2 English is required for both pathways.
What is your English language level?
English B2 or higher satisfies the language prerequisite if you don't have German A1.
Have you lived in Germany for 6 months or more in the last 5 years?
This includes any type of stay: work, study, internship, or other.
Is your occupation on Germany's shortage occupation list?
Germany maintains a list of occupations with worker shortages (Engpassberufe). This includes many healthcare, engineering, IT, and skilled trade roles.
Can you prove sufficient financial means?
You need to show you can support yourself during your stay in Germany. This is typically demonstrated through a blocked bank account with approximately 12,324 EUR (as of 2024), a formal obligation letter (Verpflichtungserklaerung), or proof of income.
